I finally deactivated my Twitter/X account. I wanted to outlast the current ownership – but I couldn’t. Their behavior finally drove me away.
It’s a bittersweet feeling. I joined in 2008 when social media was still a curiosity. I interacted with a lot of great people.
My following wasn’t large (half of it may have been bots for all I know). However, it was a good place to share my writing. I could post my thoughts and receive valuable feedback.
The experience deteriorated in the past few years – even before you know who took over. It became harder for links to my articles to gain traction. It eventually became a race to the bottom where only the most controversial content received love from the algorithm. My feed was filled with offensive ads and petty arguments. Who needs it?
Leaving it was a long time coming. I still regret abandoning the connections I made over the years. But I also recognize that the good old days aren’t coming back to the platform.
So, if you followed me on Twitter/X, I’m sorry to have left you! Please give me a follow on Bluesky.
