I’m preparing to attend a music festival with my daughter. It will be great fun to spend some time with her and introduce her to a few bands I love, including Vampire Weekend, Collective Soul, Modest Mouse, & Franz Ferdinand. She’s most excited to see Noah Kahan.
As always, my biggest travel trepidation is dealing with Type 1 Diabetes on the road. My care routine is solid at home, but the away games scare me.
Traveling disrupts my routine. That’s often good for my psyche, but frustrating for my condition. The food is different, and I have less control over how much I exercise. It leads to unpredictable results.
Walking everywhere is wonderful, but it also means my blood sugar is more likely to plummet. That’s the last thing I want to deal with in a crowd full of rowdy concertgoers.
Our last vacation had a few difficult moments. On the plus side, an emergency order of ice cream was a nice surprise. It had been years since I’ve tasted it!
The challenge is knowing how much to eat and balancing it with the insulin dosage. It’s trickier than you might think. Being a person who eats the same things every day probably doesn’t help. I have no clue what to do when everything changes.😅
Concerns aside, life is for living. Rock on!
